No quota on dairy work permits

Since 22 May 2026, no quota applies to Dairy Farm Assistant employment permits under the Employment Permits Regulations.

For years, dairy permits ran on a national cap. When it filled in November 2025, DETE rejected every application still waiting in the queue, and farmers lost workers they had already lined up. A new cap of 850 followed in December 2025.

Then the Employment Permits (Amendment) Regulations 2026 (S.I. 213/2026) replaced the whole list of quota-limited jobs with 15 occupations. Dairy Farm Assistant isn't one of them. It's still an eligible role, with no quota attached.

Heard the opposite?DETE's website still carries a notice saying no new dairy applications should be submitted. It's dated 25 November 2025 and refers to the old quota. DETE hasn't published a notice closing dairy applications since.

DETE decides every application, so we confirm the current position before you commit to a hire.
